Who made Kivu?
Kivu is made in Kigali, Rwanda, by the Kivu Super App team.
When did Kivu launch?
The public launch of Kivu Super App is October 2026.
Why is it called a super app?
Because many services live in one app: you do not need a separate app for ads, taxi, buses, chat, music and work tools. Kivu grows step by step from a classifieds board into a super app.
Is Kivu like WeChat?
The idea is similar — many services in one app — but Kivu is built for African reality: it is very light, works on cheap phones and slow internet, and does not hold people's money. Africa needs its own everyday apps, and Kivu is building one.
What does the name Kivu mean?
Kivu is the name of Lake Kivu, a large lake on the border of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Is Kivu free?
Yes. Using Kivu is free. There is no commission on deals. Sellers and businesses can buy optional promotion (boosts) to show their listings higher.
How does Kivu make money?
Only from optional paid promotion: a seller or a business can pay to boost a listing. Kivu does not take a percentage of sales.
Do I need an account?
Yes, a free account is needed to use the modules. Guests see only the sign-in screen.

How big is the Kivu app?
Probably the lightest super app in the world: opening Kivu takes about 0.3 MB (0.0003 GB) — about 10× less than one phone photo, so 1 GB of data is enough for about 3,000 opens. Does Kivu save battery and mobile data?
Kivu is built to download little. The app is under 400 KB and installs from the browser, with no app store download. Games, saved books, the last 50 songs you played and map areas you viewed are kept on the phone and open again without internet. Chat photos are compressed before sending, and the chat list loads 30 chats at a time. Kivu does not track location in the background: a driver's location is sent once when they tap "Go online", and the position is shared only during a trip. Less downloading and no background tracking also mean less work for the battery. Videos (TocTic, Kino) still stream from the internet.
Which languages does Kivu support?
