Kivu Machinery: heavy equipment for sale or rent
Part of Kivu Super App (kivu.site). In the app this section is called Heavy Machines.
Open KivuMachinery is the section of Kivu Super App for heavy equipment: tractors, trucks, tippers, excavators, loaders and similar machines. Owners and dealers post ads to sell a machine or rent it out. People who need a machine can post a "wanted" ad. Buyers find an ad, look at the photos, the year and the working hours, and contact the owner by phone or in Kivu Chat.
It is a bulletin board, not a dealer. Kivu does not own the machines, does not inspect them, does not hold the money and takes no commission. The buyer and the owner agree between themselves and pay each other directly. Posting an ad is free.
Key facts
| Where it works | Open kivu.site in a phone browser and choose Machinery. The app is used mainly in Rwanda; an ad can show a machine located in Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, DRC or Ethiopia. |
|---|---|
| Price to post an ad | Free |
| Commission on a sale or a rental | None |
| Who can post | Anyone with a free Kivu account — an owner, a dealer or a rental company |
| Two kinds of ads | "Offering" (I have a machine) and "Looking For" (I need a machine) |
| Deal type | Sale or Rent |
| Condition | New or used |
| Price in the ad | Set by the author, in US dollars (USD) or Rwandan francs (RWF) |
| Details in the ad | Title, price, condition, country and city, year, working hours, description, contact phone |
| Photos | Up to 5 photos. An "Offering" ad needs at least one. |
| 3D view | Optional. The owner can add a 3D model of the machine (a .glb file, up to 10 MB). Buyers turn it around on the screen with "3D View". |
| Filters | Offers or wanted ads; sale or rent; new or used |
| How buyers contact the owner | Phone number from the ad, or chat inside Kivu |
| Share an ad | The "Share / QR" button in an ad gives a link and a QR code. The link opens this ad in Kivu; it can be sent in Kivu Chat, on the Kivu forum or in any other app. |
| Leasing request | A buyer can leave a request for financing with a phone number. Kivu is not a lender; see the limits below. |
| How long an ad stays | Until the author deletes it. Ads do not expire. |
| Check before publishing | Every new ad is checked automatically by AI before it appears |
| Company cards | Besides ads from users, the list has about 180 cards of dealers and rental companies in Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Burundi. Kivu added them from company websites and Google Maps. Such a card is marked COMPANY, shows "Call for price" when the company does not publish prices, and has a "Call Company" button. A company can take over or remove its card through Contact Us. |
| Paid options | Optional boosts from 1,000 RWF a day. Everything else is free. |
How to use it, step by step
If you sell or rent out a machine
- Open kivu.site, sign in with a free account and open Machinery.
- Tap "Post". Choose "Offering (Have it)" and the deal type: Sale or Rent.
- Write the title (make and model, for example an excavator or a 20-tonne tipper), the price and the currency (USD or RWF).
- Choose the condition (used or brand new), the country and the city. Add the year and the working hours if you know them.
- Describe the machine honestly: its state, the terms of sale or rent, whether you can deliver it.
- Add up to 5 photos (at least one) and the phone number buyers should call. If you have a 3D model (a .glb file), you can add it too.
- Tap "Submit for Review". The ad is checked automatically, and you get a notification when it is approved or rejected.
- After approval the ad is in the list. In "My Listings" you see your ads, can boost a published ad or delete it.
- Buyers call you or write to you in Kivu Chat. You agree on the price and the terms and receive the money directly.
- When the machine is sold or no longer available, delete the ad. To change an ad, delete it and post it again.
If you buy or rent a machine
- Open kivu.site, sign in with a free account and open Machinery.
- Stay on the offers list, and filter by sale or rent and by new or used.
- Open an ad to see the photos, the price, the year, the working hours, the condition, the place and the description. If the ad has a 3D model, tap "3D View".
- Tap "Message Seller". The app shows the seller's phone number with a "Call Now" button and a "Message in Chat" button.
- Go and inspect the machine before you pay anything. If you can, bring a mechanic, start the engine and check the documents and the owner's ID.
- Agree on the price or the rental terms in writing, and pay the owner directly only after the inspection.
- If you cannot find what you need, tap "Post" and choose "Looking For (Need it)" to publish a wanted ad.
- If an ad looks wrong or dishonest, tap the report button on the ad.
What it costs
Posting ads, browsing, calling and chatting are free. There is no commission and no fee per sale or per rental.
The only paid thing is an optional boost for an ad that is already published. A boost shows the ad higher for 1, 3, 7 or 30 days. Machinery uses the business price list. Prices in Rwandan francs (RWF):
| Boost | What it does | 1 day | 3 days | 7 days | 30 days |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Category Top | The ad is shown at the top when a buyer uses a filter (sale or rent, new or used) | 1,000 | 2,500 | 5,000 | 15,000 |
| Global Top | Top of the filtered lists and top of the main list | 1,500 | 3,750 | 7,500 | 22,500 |
| Super VIP | Above the other boosts | 2,500 | 6,250 | 12,500 | 37,500 |
- Sticker on the ad (URGENT, LIKE NEW or NEGOTIABLE): 500 RWF a day, with the same discounts for longer periods (1,250 for 3 days, 2,500 for 7 days, 7,500 for 30 days). Sold only together with a boost.
- Golden design for the ad: 500 RWF once, for the whole boost period. Sold only together with a boost.
- You pay inside the app with MTN Mobile Money and confirm the payment with your MoMo PIN on your phone. The app shows the total before you pay.
- A boost changes only the position and the look of an ad. It does not skip the check, and a "verified" mark cannot be bought.
- When the boost ends, the sticker and the golden design end with it. The ad stays published in its normal place.
- Only one boost at a time: a new boost can be bought only after the current one ends.
What is good about it
- Free: no fee to post, no commission on a sale or a rental.
- Sale and rent in one place, plus "wanted" ads, so an owner can also find a person who is already looking for a machine.
- Each ad has the facts a buyer asks first: year, working hours, condition, price and place.
- Prices can be in US dollars or Rwandan francs, as is usual for heavy equipment.
- A machine located in a neighbouring country can be listed too.
- An ad can have a 3D model, so a buyer can look at the machine from all sides before travelling to see it.
- You can call the owner or write in Kivu Chat without leaving the app.
- Every new ad is checked before it appears, and every ad has a report button.
- The app is under 400 KB and opens in the phone browser, so it works on cheap phones and slow mobile internet, also outside the city.
Limits, and what protects you
| What to know | What protects you |
|---|---|
| Kivu does not hold or transfer the money. There is no escrow, and Kivu cannot refund a payment. Machines are expensive, so a mistake costs a lot. | Never send a deposit for a machine you have not seen. Pay only after you have inspected it and checked the documents. For a bank or Mobile Money transfer, check the receiver's name first. |
| Kivu does not inspect the machine and does not check the owner or the ownership papers. The automatic check looks at the ad, not at the equipment. | Inspect the machine yourself, with a mechanic if you can. Ask for the registration or purchase documents and the owner's ID. Use the report button; the team bans accounts that cheat. Fraud is a matter for the police. |
| The year, the working hours and the condition are written by the author of the ad. | Check the hour meter and the serial plate on the machine and compare them with the ad and the documents. |
| A leasing request does not mean a loan. Kivu is not a bank and does not lend money. For now the request only records your interest and your phone number; financing through partner banks is planned. | If you need financing now, talk to your bank or a leasing company directly. The Finance section of Kivu lists banks and their contacts. |
| Kivu does not deliver or transport machines, and does not handle customs for a machine from another country. | Agree on transport with the owner, or order an independent truck driver in Kivu Express. For imports, ask a clearing agent about taxes and papers before you pay. |
| A published ad cannot be edited. | Delete it and post it again. This is free, and the new ad is checked again. |
| Ads do not expire, so an old ad may still be shown after the machine is sold or rented out. | Call or write to the owner and ask whether the machine is still available before you travel. |
| The phone number in an ad can be seen by other users. | It is shown only to signed-in users, and only when they open the contact window. People who are not signed in cannot see ads or numbers. |
| Kivu is new: the public launch is October 2026, so the number of machines is still small. | Real numbers are open to everyone at kivu.site/stats. If you cannot find a machine, post a "wanted" ad. |
What Kivu Machinery does not do
- It does not sell or rent out machines itself: every ad belongs to the person or company that posted it.
- It does not hold, transfer or refund money.
- It does not take a commission or a listing fee.
- It does not inspect machines and does not promise their condition.
- It does not give loans or leasing.
- It does not transport machines or handle customs.
- It does not sell "verified" marks.
How Kivu earns from this section
From Machinery, Kivu earns only when an owner or a dealer chooses to buy a boost for an ad. There is no commission, no listing fee and no fee for contacting an owner.
Later, if users need them, Kivu plans subscriptions for businesses and advertising. Taking a percentage of sales or rentals is not planned: Kivu does not handle the money between buyer and owner.
Questions and answers
Where can I rent a tractor in Rwanda?
Open kivu.site, choose Machinery and set the filter to Rent. You see tractors, trucks and other equipment with photos, price, year and working hours. Tap "Message Seller" to see the owner's phone number or to write in Kivu Chat. You agree on the terms and pay the owner directly. If nothing fits, post a free "Looking For" ad.
How do I sell a truck or an excavator on Kivu?
Sign in with a free account, open Machinery and tap "Post". Choose "Offering" and Sale, write the make and model, the price in USD or RWF, the condition, the place, the year and the working hours, add up to 5 photos and your phone number, then tap "Submit for Review". After an automatic check the ad is published. Posting is free and there is no commission.

Yes. Posting is free, and Kivu takes no commission on a sale or a rental. You pay only if you choose an optional boost, from 1,000 RWF a day.
Is it safe to buy a machine through Kivu? How do I avoid scams?
Kivu is a bulletin board, so it cannot stop every scammer, but it makes cheating harder: every new ad is checked before it appears, each ad has a report button, and the team bans accounts that cheat. For your part: never pay a deposit for a machine you have not seen, inspect it with a mechanic, check the documents and the owner's ID, and check the receiver's name before any transfer. Fraud is a matter for the police.
Can I get a loan or leasing for a machine on Kivu?
Not from Kivu. Kivu is not a bank. An ad has a "Get Finance" button where you can leave a request with your phone number, but for now it only records your interest; financing through partner banks is planned and not available yet. If you need financing now, talk to a bank or a leasing company directly.
How much does it cost to promote a machinery ad?
A boost costs from 1,000 RWF a day: Category Top is 1,000 RWF, Global Top is 1,500 RWF and Super VIP is 2,500 RWF a day. Longer periods are cheaper per day: 7 days cost the price of 5 days, and 30 days cost the price of 15 days. A sticker such as URGENT adds 500 RWF a day. You pay with MTN Mobile Money inside the app.
Can I post a machine that is in Kenya or Uganda?
Yes. When you post an ad you choose the country: Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, DRC or Ethiopia. Most users of the app are in Rwanda for now, and Kivu does not handle transport or customs.
I need a machine but cannot find it. What can I do?
Post a free "Looking For" ad in Machinery: write what you need, your budget and your phone number. Owners who switch to the wanted list see it and can call you.
Does Kivu deliver the machine?
No. Kivu does not transport equipment. Agree on transport with the owner, or order an independent truck driver in the Kivu Express section and pay the driver directly.
Can I edit my machinery ad?
No. A published ad cannot be edited. To change the price or the text, delete the ad in "My Listings" and post it again for free.
