Kivu Funeral services: funeral providers, services and prices in Rwanda

Part of Kivu Super App (kivu.site). In the app this section is called Funeral Services.

Open Kivu

Kivu Funeral services is a directory inside Kivu Super App, a free app made in Kigali, Rwanda. It lists funeral providers — funeral planning, coffins, transport, mortuary, flowers, tents and chairs, and other services — with their phone, address, opening hours, place on the map and, where the provider has given them, a list of services with prices. It is made so that a family can see the options in one place and call quickly at a hard time.

Kivu is a directory, not a funeral company. Kivu does not organise funerals, does not hold the money and takes no commission. The family agrees on everything with the provider and pays the provider directly. Most pages today were added by Kivu from public map data and are not yet managed by the provider. Listing a provider is free.

How to use it, step by step

If your family needs funeral services

  1. Open kivu.site, sign in with a free account and open Funeral services.
  2. Look through the list, or narrow it: choose a type such as Funeral Planning, Coffins or Mortuary, or a filter such as "Open Now", "24h Service" or "Repatriation". The map shows the providers near you.
  3. Open a provider's page. The Info tab shows the address, the opening hours when they are known, and the marks. The Services tab shows the services and prices when the provider has listed them.
  4. Call the provider: tap the call button to see the phone number. This is the quickest way, and it works on every page.
  5. On a page managed by the provider you can also choose the services you need, open the cart and tap "Send Booking Request". Kivu Chat opens with the provider, with the chosen services and the total already written. Send the message and agree on the details. The request holds services of one provider only: if you open another provider's page, the cart is emptied.
  6. Compare two or three providers before you decide, and ask each for the full price in writing — in chat or on paper — with everything that is included.
  7. Pay the provider directly, as you agreed. Check the receiver's name before any Mobile Money payment.
  8. If a page looks wrong or dishonest, use the report button on the page.

If you provide funeral services

  1. Open kivu.site, sign in with a free account and open Funeral services. First look for your business: it may already be listed from public map data.
  2. If your business is there, open the page and tap "Is this your business?", then "Send request". You get a code. Kivu calls the phone number shown on the page and asks whether you sent the request; you can also write to Kivu from the official page of the business and give the code. After the check the page is yours, for free.
  3. If your business is not there, tap "List My Service". Fill in the name, the type, a description, the phone number, working days and hours and the marks (24h Service, Transport, Home Visit, Repatriation, Insurance, Cremation).
  4. Write the address and put a pin on the map, or use GPS.
  5. Add your services in sections — for example Coffins & Caskets or Hearse & Transport — each with a name, a price and, if you want, a description and a photo. Leave the price empty to show "On Request".
  6. Tap "Submit Application". The page and its services are checked, and you get a notification when the page is approved or rejected.
  7. After approval you can edit your page at any time. Services, prices, hours and phone change at once; a new name, description, cover photo or address is checked again.
  8. Families call you or write to you in Kivu Chat. You agree on everything with them and receive the money directly.
  9. If a page is about your business and you want it removed, write through Contact Us; Kivu takes it down within 48 hours.

What it costs

Looking for a provider, calling and chat are free for families. Listing a provider, taking over an existing page and the list of services are free for providers. There is no commission.

The only paid thing is an optional boost for a provider page that is already published and managed by the provider. A boost shows the page higher in the list for 1, 3, 7 or 30 days. This section uses the business price list. Prices in Rwandan francs (RWF):

What is good about it

Limits, and what protects you

What to knowWhat protects you
Kivu does not organise funerals and is not a party to your agreement with the provider. It cannot make a provider do the work or return money.Agree on the full list of services and the total price in writing before you pay. Keep the chat messages and receipts.
Kivu does not hold or transfer the money and cannot refund a payment.Pay the provider directly, and where you can, pay in parts as the work is done. Check the receiver's name on your phone before a Mobile Money payment.
Most pages were added from public map data and are not managed by the provider. Their details may be out of date, and they have no chat and no request.Call the phone number on the page to confirm the address, the hours and the prices. The provider can take over the page for free and keep it up to date.
Prices on a page are written by the provider, or taken from the provider's own price list, and can change. Some services show "On Request".Ask for the final price by phone or in chat. Compare two or three providers before you decide.
Kivu does not check licences, vehicles, mortuary conditions or the quality of the work. Marks such as 24h Service or Insurance are set by the provider.Visit the provider or ask people you trust when you can. Use the report button; the team hides pages that cheat.
A request in chat is a message, not a confirmed order. There is no booking calendar in this section.Wait for the provider's answer, and phone if it is urgent.
There are no written reviews and no star ratings. Pages have likes, and "Top Rated" in the filter sorts by the number of likes. The paid labels "Top Provider" and "QUALITY" are advertising, not ratings.
You need a free account to see providers and phone numbers.Signing in is free and takes a moment. It keeps anonymous spam out.
Kivu works in Rwanda only for now, and it is new: the public launch is October 2026, and only about a dozen providers are listed so far.Real numbers are open to everyone at kivu.site/stats. Keep asking your community and people you trust as well.

What Kivu Funeral services does not do

How Kivu earns from this section

From Funeral services, Kivu earns only when a provider chooses to buy a boost for its page. Families pay Kivu nothing. There is no commission, no listing fee and no fee for taking over a page.

Later, if users need them, Kivu plans subscriptions for businesses and advertising. Taking a percentage of what families pay is not planned: Kivu does not handle the money between the family and the provider.

Questions and answers

How do I find funeral services in Rwanda with Kivu?

Open kivu.site, sign in with a free account and open Funeral services. Look through the list or the map, or narrow it by type (for example Coffins, Transport, Mortuary) or by a filter such as "Open Now" or "24h Service". Open a page to see the phone, the address and, where listed, the services with prices, then call the provider.

Does Kivu organise funerals?

No. Kivu is a directory: it shows funeral providers and their contacts. It does not organise funerals, does not provide coffins or transport, and is not a party to the agreement between a family and a provider. The family agrees and pays directly with the provider it chooses.

How much do funeral services cost in Rwanda?

Prices are set by each provider. Some pages in Kivu show a list of services with prices in Rwandan francs, and some show "On Request" or no list at all. Use the listed prices to compare, then call the provider to confirm the final price and what is included.

How do I pay a funeral provider found on Kivu?

You pay the provider directly, as you agree — in cash, by bank or by Mobile Money. Kivu does not take or hold the payment and adds no fee. Agree on the total in writing first, and check the receiver's name before you confirm a Mobile Money payment.

Can I find a funeral provider that works at night or brings a body from abroad?

Providers can set the marks 24h Service and Repatriation on their page, and there are filters for both. These marks are set by the provider, so call to confirm that the service is available now.

Why can I not send a message to some providers?

Most pages were added by Kivu from public map data so that families can find a phone number quickly. Until the provider takes over its page, the page has no chat and no request. Call the phone number on the page instead.

My funeral business is already on Kivu. How do I take over the page?

Open the page and tap "Is this your business?", then "Send request". You get a code. Kivu calls the phone number shown on the page and asks whether you sent the request, or you write to Kivu from the official page of the business with the code. After the check the page is yours and you can change the text, photo, services and prices. It is free.

Is it free to list funeral services on Kivu?

Yes. Listing a provider and its services is free, and Kivu takes no commission. A provider pays only if it chooses an optional boost to be shown higher, from 1,500 RWF a day. To remove a page about your business, write through Contact Us; Kivu takes it down within 48 hours.
