TocTic: short videos in Kivu Super App
Part of Kivu Super App (kivu.site). In the app this section is called TocTic.
Open KivuTocTic is the short video section of Kivu Super App, a free app made in Kigali, Rwanda. People post vertical videos of up to 60 seconds with a caption and hashtags. Others watch them in a feed, like them, comment and follow the authors. A video can carry a link to something else in Kivu, such as an ad, a restaurant or a song.
TocTic is free to watch and free to post. Kivu does not pay authors for views and does not make the videos: each video belongs to the person who posted it, and that person is responsible for it. Videos are streamed from the internet, so watching uses mobile data.

How to use it, step by step
If you want to watch
- Open kivu.site, sign in with a free account and open TocTic.
- Swipe up to go to the next video. The feed mixes new videos, popular recent videos and videos from authors you follow. It shows videos you have not watched first; when there are no new ones, it shows ones you have already seen.
- Tap the heart to like a video, the comment button to read and write comments, and "Follow" to see more from the author.
- Tap the author's name to open their profile with their videos, followers and likes.
- Use search to find videos, profiles or hashtags.
- If the video has a card with a link, tap it to open the ad, place, event or song inside Kivu. If a song plays with the video, its name is under the caption: tap it to open the song in Music.
- Tap "Share" to send the video to a chat, the forum or another app, or to show a QR code that another phone can scan.
- If a video should not be there, tap "Report".
If you want to post a video
- Open kivu.site, sign in with a free account and open TocTic.
- Tap the upload button and choose a video from your phone: MP4 or MOV, up to 60 seconds.
- Wait while the app makes the file smaller on your phone. This saves your mobile data and makes the video load faster for viewers.
- Write a caption and add hashtags so people can find the video in search.
- If you want, tap "Add music" and choose a song from Kivu Music, the second it starts from and whether to keep the video's own sound. Viewers hear the song with your video, and listening with sound counts as a play of the song. If the artist marked the song's chorus, the start is set to the chorus.
- If you want, attach one link: any ad (yours or someone else's), a restaurant, an event, a salon, a machine, a song, a forum topic or a bus route in Kivu.
- Tap "Post Video". The video is checked automatically, and you get a notification when it is approved or rejected.
- The list button opens "My Videos", where you see the status of your videos. From there you can delete a video or, once it is published, buy a boost for it. The "My profile" button there opens your own profile, as other people see it. The pin button there pins up to 3 published videos; they stay first in your profile.
- To change a video or its caption, delete it and post it again.
What it costs
Watching, liking, commenting, following and posting videos are free. Kivu takes no fee from authors.
The only paid thing is an optional boost for a video that is already published. You do not buy days: you buy a number of extra views. A boosted video is shown in the feed to people who have not seen it yet, until it has collected up to the number of views you chose. Prices in Rwandan francs (RWF):
| Boost package | Price |
|---|---|
| Up to 200 views | 500 |
| Up to 500 views | 1,000 |
| Up to 1,200 views | 2,000 |
| Up to 3,500 views | 5,000 |
| Up to 8,000 views | 10,000 |
| Up to 20,000 views | 20,000 |
- "Up to" is an honest limit, not a promise. How fast the views come depends on how many people are watching TocTic. TocTic is new, so start with a small package and buy more only if it fills.
- If you boost the same video again, the new views are added to the views that are still left from the previous boost.
- A boost cannot be aimed at one city or region. The video is shown to TocTic viewers in general.
- You pay inside the app with MTN Mobile Money and confirm the payment with your MoMo PIN on your phone. The app shows the total before you pay.
- A boost only shows the video to more people. It does not add likes, followers or comments and does not skip the check.
What is good about it
- Free to watch and free to post, with no fee for authors.
- The app makes a video smaller on the phone before upload, so posting costs less mobile data.
- A video can lead straight to an ad, a restaurant, an event or a song in Kivu, so a small business can show its product and let the viewer open it in one tap.
- The feed does not keep repeating videos you have already watched while there are new ones.
- Which videos you liked is private: other people see the number of likes on a video, but not your list of likes.
- Every new video is checked before it appears, and every video has a "Report" button.
- The whole app is under 400 KB and opens in the phone browser, with nothing to install from an app store.
- The same free account opens the other sections of Kivu: Market, Kivu Vibe, Kino and more.
Limits, and what protects you
| What to know | What protects you |
|---|---|
| Videos are streamed and are not saved on the phone, so TocTic uses mobile data and does not work offline. | Watch on Wi-Fi when you can. The sections that do work offline in Kivu are music you have played, games you have opened and saved books. |
| A video can be up to 60 seconds long. | Cut a longer video into parts before you upload it. Longer films belong in the Kino section as YouTube links. |
| On a phone that cannot make the video smaller before upload (for example some iPhones), only an original file of up to 20 MB is accepted. This is roughly 20 to 30 seconds of normal phone video. | Record at a lower quality or make the clip shorter. The app tells you when a file is too large before it starts the upload. |
| A published video and its caption cannot be edited. | Delete the video and post it again for free. The new video is checked again. |
| The automatic check looks at the video before it is published, but it cannot catch everything and does not confirm who owns the video. | Every video has a "Report" button. The team reviews reports, hides or deletes videos that break the rules and bans accounts that keep posting them. |
| A comment cannot be edited or deleted by its author after it is posted. | Read your comment before you send it. The team can remove videos and ban accounts that are used for abuse. |
| Kivu does not pay authors for views, and there are no gifts or tips inside TocTic. | Posting is free. Use the link on a video to bring viewers to your ad, place or song in Kivu. |
| A boost gives up to the number of views you bought, not a fixed number by a fixed date. | Start with a small package while TocTic is new. A repeat boost adds to what is left, so unused views are not lost when you buy more. |
| There is a limit on how many videos one account can post in a day. | The limit is there to keep spam out of the feed. |
| You need a free account even to watch. | Signing in is free. It means every video, comment and like belongs to an account. |
| TocTic is new: the public launch is October 2026, and there are only a small number of videos so far. | Real numbers are open to everyone at kivu.site/stats. Authors who post now are easy to notice while the feed is short. |
What Kivu TocTic does not do
- It does not pay authors for views and does not share advertising income.
- It does not make or own the videos: each video belongs to the person who posted it.
- It does not sell likes, followers or comments.
- It does not promise a number of views for a boost.
- It does not save videos on the phone for offline watching.
- It does not offer live streams, filters, effects or a video editor inside TocTic. A separate video editor is in the Tools section of Kivu.
How Kivu earns from this section
From TocTic, Kivu earns only when an author chooses to buy a boost for a video. Watching and posting are free, and there are no advert breaks between videos.
Later, if users need them, Kivu plans subscriptions for businesses and advertising. Paying authors for views is not available today.
