Kivu Events: what's on in Kigali and Rwanda, on a map

Part of Kivu Super App (kivu.site). In the app it is the Events tab of the Kivu Map screen; on the home screen its icon is named Events & Weather.

Open Kivu

Kivu Events is the section of Kivu Super App that shows what is happening in Kigali and across Rwanda: concerts, parties, sport, business meetups, food events, tours, exhibitions and classes. Every event has a date, a place on the map, a price and a description. You can tap "I'm going", join the event chat and get the route to the place. Kivu Super App is a free app made in Kigali, Rwanda.

Kivu Events is a poster board, not a ticket office. Kivu does not sell tickets, does not hold money and takes no commission. The price on an event is information: you pay at the entrance or directly to the organizer. Posting an event is free.

How to use it, step by step

If you are looking for something to do

  1. Open kivu.site, sign in with a free account and open Map.
  2. Stay on the map to see event pins around you, or open the Events tab to see the list.
  3. Search by name or place, choose a category (for example Parties, Sports or Business), and in the menu above the list pick "Today" or "This weekend" to filter by date, or sort the list by soonest, popular or newest.
  4. Open an event to see the cover, date and time, place, price, description and how many people are going.
  5. Tap "I'm going" if you plan to come. You are added to the people going and to the event chat, where you can ask questions. Kivu sends you a reminder before the event starts.
  6. Use the contact buttons on the event: "Event Chat", "Call" (when the organizer posted the event), WhatsApp or Instagram.
  7. Tap "Ride there" to order a ride to the place in Kivu Express, or build a route on the map.
  8. Share the event with friends in Kivu Chat, post it to the Forum or show its QR code.
  9. Before you travel or pay, check the date, time and price with the organizer. If the event says "Time: ask organizer" or "Price: ask organizer", Kivu does not know it.
  10. Your events are in "My Events". If an event looks false or unsafe, tap "Report".

If you organize an event

  1. Open kivu.site, sign in with a free account and open Map.
  2. Tap "Create Event" and choose a category.
  3. Add a cover photo if you have one (up to 5 MB), a title, and the start and end date and time.
  4. Write the price in RWF (0 means free entry) and a description: what will happen, who it is for, how to pay.
  5. If you want, add your WhatsApp number and Instagram, Twitter or Facebook. You can also add a contact phone: the "Call" button on your event dials it. If you leave it empty, "Call" uses the phone from your profile.
  6. Tap "Pick on Map" to set the place and write the place name or address.
  7. Tap "Submit Event". The event is checked automatically and then appears on the map and in the list. A group chat for the event is created at the same time. Until it is approved, you see the mark "Pending review" on your event; if it does not pass the check, the mark is "Not approved".
  8. People tap "I'm going" and write in the event chat. You see how many are going. You collect the money yourself, at the entrance or by Mobile Money. Kivu notifies you when more people are going.
  9. An event cannot be edited after it is posted. To change something, delete the event and create it again.
  10. To get more attention, you can boost an approved event that has not ended yet.

What it costs

Looking at events, "I'm going", the event chat and posting an event are free. Kivu sells no tickets and takes no commission from entry fees.

The only paid thing is an optional boost for an organizer's event that is already approved and has not ended. A boost pins the event to the top of the list and highlights its pin on the map. Prices in Rwandan francs (RWF):

BoostWhat it does1 day3 days1 week
Standard BoostThe event is shown above regular events, with a highlighted pin1,0002,5005,000

What is good about it

Limits, and what protects you

What to knowWhat protects you
Kivu does not sell tickets and does not hold money. "I'm going" does not reserve a place for you.Ask the organizer how to pay and whether places are limited. If you pay by Mobile Money, check the receiver's name on your phone before you confirm.
Most events today are added by Kivu from public event listings and venues' public posts, not by the organizers. A date, time or price can be out of date or missing.Such events show the organizer's public contacts in the description or an Instagram link. Check with the organizer before you travel. "ask organizer" on an event means Kivu does not know the time or the price.
Events added by Kivu have no "Call" button, and the organizer may not read the event chat.Use the links in the event (Instagram, WhatsApp) or the contacts in the description.
Kivu does not check that an event will really take place, and cannot refund you if it is cancelled or changed.Pay at the entrance when you can. Ask in the event chat on the day. Use the Report button for false events; fraud is a matter for the police.
"I'm going" cannot be undone, and other signed-in users can see your name and photo among the people going.Tap it only for events where you are comfortable being seen. It commits you to nothing: there is no fee and no penalty if you do not come.
An event cannot be edited after it is posted.Delete it and create it again for free; the new event is checked again. Post changes in the event chat so that guests see them.
Events are removed 7 days after they end, so Kivu is not an archive of past events.Save photos and contacts you need before then. The event chat stays.
You need a free account to open event details.Signing in is free. It keeps anonymous spam out and means every event belongs to an account.
Kivu works in Rwanda only for now, and most events are in Kigali.Anyone can add an event in their own town for free. East Africa is the next goal.

What Kivu Events does not do

How Kivu earns from this section

From Events, Kivu earns only when an organizer chooses to buy a boost for an event. There is no ticket fee, no commission and no fee for posting.

Later, if users need them, Kivu plans subscriptions for businesses and advertising. Taking a percentage of ticket sales is not planned: Kivu does not handle the money between guests and organizers.

Questions and answers

What is happening in Kigali this weekend?

Open kivu.site, sign in and open Map, then the Events tab. You see upcoming events in Kigali and other parts of Rwanda on a map and in a list — concerts, parties, sport, business meetups, tours and more. Pick "This weekend" in the menu above the list and choose a category. Check the date and price with the organizer before you go.

How do I buy a ticket for an event on Kivu?

Kivu does not sell tickets. The price on an event is information from the organizer. You pay at the entrance or directly to the organizer, in cash or by Mobile Money. "I'm going" only adds you to the list of people going and to the event chat; it is not a ticket.

Is it free to post an event on Kivu?

Yes. Posting an event is free and Kivu takes no commission from your entry fee. You pay only if you choose an optional boost to show your event higher, from 1,000 RWF a day.

How do I promote my event in Rwanda with Kivu?

Open Map, tap "Create Event", fill in the category, title, time, price, description and place, and tap "Submit Event". After an automatic check it appears on the map and in the list, with its own group chat. You can share it to chats and the Forum, show its QR code, and boost it: Standard Boost costs 1,000 RWF a day, Premium Aura 3,000 and Super VIP 5,000; 3 days cost the price of 2.5 days and a week costs the price of 5 days.

Where do the events on Kivu come from?

From two places. Organizers post their own events for free. Kivu also adds events from public event listings and from venues' public posts, so that the map is useful from the first day. On 11 October 2026 all 71 upcoming events were added this way. Every event is checked automatically before it appears.

Can I cancel "I'm going" or edit my event?

No. "I'm going" cannot be undone, but it commits you to nothing. An organizer cannot edit a posted event; delete it and create it again for free.

What if an event is cancelled or the information is wrong?

Kivu does not organize events and cannot refund money. Check the details with the organizer before you travel or pay, and prefer paying at the entrance. If an event looks false, tap "Report" on it; the team removes such events and bans accounts that cheat.

Can I see events without an account?

No. You need a free Kivu account to open event details, tap "I'm going" and join the event chat. Signing in is free.
