Kivu Forum: public discussions for Rwanda
Part of Kivu Super App (kivu.site). In the app this section is called Community Forum.
Open KivuKivu Forum is the public discussion section of Kivu Super App, a free app made in Kigali, Rwanda. Anyone with an account can start a topic — a question, a piece of advice, news from the neighbourhood, a business idea — and other people answer in comments, reply to each other and like what is useful. Topics are sorted by new or popular and grouped by tags such as jobs, business, tech and daily life.
The forum is free and is made for cheap phones and slow internet: it is text only, with no images to load. Everything in it is public to signed-in users and is shown under your profile name. Kivu does not write the topics and does not check that what people say is true; it checks topics automatically for scams and forbidden content and hides those that break the rules.

How to use it, step by step
If you want to read and take part
- Open kivu.site, sign in with a free account and open Forum.
- Choose "New" to see the latest topics or "Popular" to see the ones people discuss most.
- Tap a tag — Jobs, Business, Tech or Daily Life — to see only that subject.
- Open a topic to read it and its comments. Older comments open with "Show earlier comments".
- Write a comment at the bottom, or tap reply under a comment to answer that person.
- Tap the like button on a topic or a comment that helped you.
- Share a topic with a friend in Kivu Chat, or tap "Report" if a topic is a scam, an insult or something illegal.
If you want to start a topic
- Open Forum and tap "New Topic".
- Write the subject: a short, clear line about what the topic is.
- Write the message. Give the details people need to answer you. Do not put private data in it: the topic is public.
- Add up to 5 tags, separated by commas, for example: jobs, kigali, tips.
- Tap "Post Topic". The topic appears in the forum at once and is checked automatically.
- If the check rejects the topic, it is hidden and you see "REJECTED BY MODERATION" on it. You can post a corrected topic.
- Answer people in the comments. You cannot edit a topic; to change it, delete it and post it again.
- You get a notification when someone comments on your topic or replies to you. To stop it, tap the bell inside the topic (only this topic) or the bell at the top of Forum (the whole Forum).
- To keep an important topic at the top of the forum for some days, you can boost it.
What it costs
Reading, posting topics, commenting and liking are free.
The only paid thing is an optional boost for your own topic. A boost shows the topic at the top of the forum for 1, 3, 7 or 30 days. Prices in Rwandan francs (RWF):
| Boost | What it does | 1 day | 3 days | 7 days | 30 days |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sponsored | The topic is shown above all regular topics | 800 | 2,000 | 4,000 | 12,000 |
| Top Sponsored | The topic is shown above the other boosted topics | 1,200 | 3,000 | 6,000 | 18,000 |
- Sticker on the topic (HOT TOPIC, DISCUSSION or QUESTION): 300 RWF a day, with the same discounts for longer periods (750 for 3 days, 1,500 for 7 days, 4,500 for 30 days). Sold only together with a boost.
- Golden design for the topic: 300 RWF once, for the whole boost period. Sold only together with a boost.
- You pay inside the app with MTN Mobile Money and confirm the payment with your MoMo PIN on your phone. The app shows the total before you pay.
- A boosted topic is advertising paid by its author. A boost changes only the position and the look of a topic; it does not skip the check.
- A topic that is hidden cannot be boosted. If you delete a boosted topic, the rest of the paid boost is lost.
- When the boost ends, the sticker and the golden design end with it. The topic stays in the forum in its normal place.
- Only one boost at a time: a new boost can be bought only after the current one ends.
What is good about it
- Free: no fee to read, post or comment.
- Light: text only, so it opens fast on cheap phones and uses very little mobile data.
- Local: topics are about life, work and business in Rwanda, in the languages people use here.
- Simple tags and two ways to sort make it easy to find a subject.
- Replies under a comment keep a conversation readable.
- Topics are checked automatically, and every topic has a Report button.
- A topic can be sent straight into a Kivu chat or shared by link and QR code.
- The same free account opens the other sections of Kivu: Market, Jobs, Events and more.
- The app works in 11 languages, including English, Kinyarwanda, French and Swahili.
Limits, and what protects you
| What to know | What protects you |
|---|---|
| Everything in the forum is public to signed-in users and shows your profile name. The forum is not anonymous. | Do not post your phone number, address or documents. You can delete your own topics and comments at any time. |
| Kivu does not check that what people write is true. Advice about money, health or law in a topic is one person's opinion. | Check important things with a professional or an official source. Use Report for topics that mislead people on purpose. |
| A new topic appears before the automatic check has finished, so a bad topic can be visible for a short time. | The check usually takes a few minutes and hides topics that break the rules. Every topic has a Report button, and the team bans accounts that cheat. |
| People may offer deals or ask for money in topics and comments. | The forum is for talking, not for paying. Never send money to someone you only know from a topic. For buying and selling use Market, where each ad is checked before it appears. |
| Topics and comments cannot be edited. | Delete and post again; this is free. Read your text once more before you post. |
| Only topics have a Report button; comments do not. | Report the topic and say which comment is the problem, or write to the team through Contact Us. |
| No photos or videos can be added. | This keeps the forum fast and cheap to use. For photos use an ad in Market or a chat. |
| A topic at the top with a "Sponsored" mark is paid advertising by its author. | Boosted topics are marked. A boost does not mean Kivu agrees with the topic. |
| You need a free account to read the forum. | Signing in is free. It keeps anonymous spam out and means every topic belongs to an account. |
| The forum is new, so there are still few topics. | Real numbers for Kivu are open to everyone at kivu.site/stats. You can start the topic you are looking for. |
What Kivu Forum does not do
- It does not write or edit topics: every topic belongs to the person who posted it.
- It does not check that advice or news in a topic is true.
- It does not give medical, legal or financial advice.
- It does not allow anonymous posts.
- It does not show photos or videos.
- It does not handle money or deals between users.
- It does not sell "verified" marks.
How Kivu earns from this section
From the Forum, Kivu earns only when an author chooses to buy a boost for a topic. Reading, posting and commenting are free.
Later, if users need them, Kivu plans subscriptions for businesses and advertising.
