Join us for an intimate evening with Kenyan musician and cultural researcher Akoth Jumadi. Akoth builds contemporary music around the nyatiti, the eight-stringed lyre of the Luo people. Blending Luo folk with jazz, Afro-soul, Benga and Taraab, her work explores themes of love, healing, liberation and cultural belonging. As younger generations increasingly turn to global sounds, many traditional instruments risk quietly fading from everyday life, and with them, the stories, knowledge and ways of seeing they carry. This programme is an act of cultural preservation and invites Kigali’s artistic community to engage with Kenyan musical heritage and to reflect on parallel conversations about Rwanda’s own traditional sounds. Curated by Carmina Ndahiro, whose work spans music management, storytelling and experience curation. Her practice centers African stories, shared in their traditions and in the full complexity of their many rich layers. Space is limited. RSVP via the link in our bio to secure your spot. Venue: Gihanga Institute of Contemporary Art
